After he finished school in LA and before he settled down in the Black Hills of South Dakota, Don Mueller went into the desert. He and his pal Don McKenzie had their camera gear, a jeep, supplies and sunglasses. The excursion into the sandstone arches of Utah and the cacti smattered deserts of Arizona, was known only as, "ex-pe-di-teeon Moab." After a brief stint in landscape and tourism photography, and many days spent in the hot desert sun, the young men called it quits and moved on to greener pastures.
