The Ganden Sumtseling Gompa Monastery (AKA Sungtseling and Guihuas) is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery located north of Shangri-La. It’s situated in the town of Jiantang at an elevation of 11,090 ft in Yunnan province, China. The Monastery was built in 1697 and established by the 5th Dali Lama. The area was bombed by the PLA during their invasion of Tibet in 1959 and was rebuilt in 1983. There are several buildings of the Traditional Tibetan or the Han-Chinese style of architecture. The campus has eight colleges which are usually open to the public.
